At this stage, revisions can be driven by either the design team OR the build team. For the example I posted, WD-1 is the initial release, WD-2 was a major revision, WD-2.1 was a minor revision, and WD-3 was another major revision. Once the design is done, and the drawings are approved for release, they become known as 'working drawings' and gain the WD designation. This stage doesn't actually appear in the revision history because there are too many changes to track. First is called pre-lim, and this is used by the engineering and design team as we pass drawings around for comment and redlining. We have 3 'design stages' as it pertains to the revision history. All title blocks are the same, so all drawings in that project show the revision level to be 'WD-3'. I've attached a screenshot showing our rev table, and in the corner you can see the part of our title block that shows the revlevel. Our way around this is to show only the revision level in the title block revision history is kept on the 'General & Project Notes' drawing. I have finally come up with a system I like: Everywhere I've worked, revision history inside the title block is an issue, and almost always it's also a pain in the nethers.
